Help with my travelThree legs of the journey
Banda Neira has no airport. Ninety per cent of the journey ends at sea, and the last leg is always a small boat.
Pelni (KMP), Ambon / Surabaya
The main supply and passenger route. Sails roughly every two weeks and anchors offshore at Banda Neira; you transfer to Neira by the village boat first.
Express Bahari, Tulehu to Banda
The fast boat. Regular sailings from Tulehu (near Ambon) taking around five hours, arriving in the strait between Neira and Gunung Api.
Last leg, village boat (ketinting)
From the jetty on Neira across to our jetty, three to five minutes. We can send a boat to meet your ferry or flight.
Ferry schedules change. Send us your dates and we will check which sailing works, do not book until we confirm.
When to come
March–May
Best diving visibility of the year, calm seas, and the first half of the high season.
June–August
Dry season, warm and settled. Popular with families and over-30s divers.
September–November
The second diving window. Busiest weeks, book early.
December–February
Rainy season. Short afternoon showers; the reef and the whales are worth it.
What is under the surface
Lava Flow
The dive site made by the 1988 eruption, minutes from the bungalow jetty.
Pulau Hatta
Reef shark, turtles and dense coral, the classic day trip.
Pulau Rhun
Where the VOC spice trade once moved. Sheltered bays, very little crowding.
Pulau Ai
The calmest water in the archipelago. Traditional villages, no day-trip crowds.
Mount Banda
Guided climb to the summit crater with a local guide, full day.
Whale sharks
Seasonal, in the strait. Ask us and we will tell you honestly if it is not the season.
We only have 6 bungalows, and they fill early in the diving season, book ahead.
